About
Lulu MacDonald (b. 1991) is a fine artist and sculptor originally from Jersey in the Channel Islands.
Lulu MacDonald’s work bridges the personal and the universal, often focusing on world building by intertwining storytelling with cutting-edge scientific discoveries. Her art grapples with the challenges of living on a damaged planet, creating spaces for connection, care, and even mourning for the world around us. Central to her practice are themes of sustainability, immigration, and ecology.
Her sculptures often seem to emerge from architectural spaces, as if they’ve just broken through the surface, risen from beneath the ground, or emerged from beyond the water’s edge. Her works aim to hold the micro ripples and the macro ricochets, resulting in multidisciplinary and immersive installations that have beendescribed as "jewelry for architecture." Lulu's art explores moments of vulnerability and the language of sculpture, to consider the processes of building and conscious unbuilding.
Lulu's work is deeply holistic and whimsical, her influences include the Art Nouveau movement, her garden, the mythological and political environment of her island upbringing existing within the inbetween of France and England, and broader universal catastrophes, discoveries and stories of hope.
